· What is different about your washes compared
to all the others on the market?
Our washes are not like a conventional shampoo or
washes, i.e. you won't get lots of suds and lathering. This is because
they do not contain any soap or detergent. They are made from cleansers
derived from coconut oil and sugar cane to which are added essential oils.
They are specifically formulated to be low foaming and to leave little
or no residue.
· Why are they low foaming and what does this
mean?
Most washes and shampoos contain chemical detergents
(see below) and produce a lot of foam and bubbles. These are not needed
to clean the animal's coat, so we do not use them. The naturally based
cleansers that we use will produce only a small amount of foam. This means
that there is not the usual froth clogging the drains at the wash area.
In addition it means that the coat is easier to rinse out. The coat is
just as clean but less of the natural oils have been removed. This is
why the coat will be naturally soft, shiny and clean and of course smelling
fresh.
· Do your washes contain SLS or SLES?
No! Sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) and sodium
laureth sulphate (also known as sodium lauryl ether sulphate or SLES)
are chemicals that are widely used in shampoos, soaps and cleansers and
most equine shampoo products contain them. They are used to provide extra
bubbles and foam to a shampoo or soap. They have been used so much by
the cosmetics industry that many people believe that if there is no foam,
then the product does not work! This is simply not the case. In addition,
there is an increasing body of opinion which feels that these chemicals
should not be used on mammalian tissue at all. A search of the Internet
will reveal many pages of information on the potential issues surrounding
these products. In any case we would not use them, as they are not "natural".
